We are a small group of independent filmmakers based in Alberta, Canada, called Facing North Films. We are currently working on a feature length documentary film about the government's pandemic response and the newly implemented vaccine mandates, to examine their impact on society and the precedent they set for future policy making. This fundraiser is to help us cover all costs associated with the production. <iframe media_type="0" media_id="gW3H1fpPQEc" class="youtube-replace" title="YouTube video player" style="margin-bottom:20px;width:560px;height:315px;" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/gW3H1fpPQEc/?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"></iframe> Detailed Synopsis: Right now our society is in a major state of flux because policies are being implemented that are impacting citizens lives to a degree that hasn't been felt in most of our lifetimes. There is a huge reach from government into peoples personal lives, freedoms, jobs and decision making, determining the things we can and cannot do. We would hope something so transformative to society would have a robust and critical analysis, however the way it's portrayed in the media is a monolithic agreement that these policies and mandates are the best thing for everybody. We believe there's a story being missed. There are families and communities and relationships that have been affected by the decisions, but they are not given a voice. It has become evident to us that there is not a balanced or nuanced approach to reporting these people and the very real impact on their lives. When policy making meets humanity, we need the voice of humanity and all its facets to be shared, so that we can understand what the policies are doing. We cannot negate the voice of a portion of society that is being directly affected by these decisions and expect a beneficial outcome. There are experts with a direct knowledge of the policies and how they will affect us that are being censored and not allowed to speak, thus affecting the narrative that everybody is listening to. When you silence voices and you only get one source of information, the chances of coming out with bad policy are increased. We want to give voice not only to people affected by this, but actual experts, frontline workers, people that the mainstream media uses as authoritative sources in order to justify these policies. We feel it's incumbent that if the same sources have disagreements, there should be an equal opportunity for everyone to voice their opinion, but that's missing from this conversation.
