<div>Three hundred homes are coming where the field is. Ask yourself a simple question: at 7:15 on a Tuesday morning, when everyone in those 300 houses is trying to get to work at the same time you are — how do you get out of your own driveway?
</div>
<div>Then add the rest. Thousands of housing units have been approved since the urban holding was lifted in 2019 — approved, but mostly not built yet. Add the 583,000-square-foot logistics facility on 50th, and the trucks that come with it, rolling down the same two-lane roads your kids ride bikes near.
</div>
<div>This isn't a guess. The developers' own traffic studies say it: once these homes are built and people move in, we're stuck.
</div>
<div>And you already know exactly what that feels like. Think about sitting on I-5, crawling toward the bridge. Clock ticking. Dinner going cold. Practice already started. Nothing to do but sit there and take it. You get home wrung out before the night even starts.
</div>
<div>Now picture that on your own exit. Getting off the freeway and getting home becomes the same slog — the same crawl, the same clock, the same stress. The rural road you moved here for becomes the backup you sit in. Every night. Even after the road is built out.
</div>
<div>And here's the thing — none of it is here yet. That's the whole point.
</div>
<div>Washington law was supposed to prevent exactly this. It's called concurrency, and it's simple: don't approve the homes until the roads can carry them. Roads and rooftops together. Clark County's own code puts a hard line on it — a corridor is failing once it's carrying more than 90% of the traffic it can handle. NE 179th and the Salmon Creek area are already past that line. Under the plain words of the code, that means stop approving.
</div>
<div>For years, the county told us there was no problem — while approving development after development.
</div>
<div>We took it to a hearing. The rule is written down. The roads already fail. It was about as clear-cut as a case gets — even the developers expected to lose. That's why they've been lobbying for an emergency change to the very code they were up against.
</div>
<div>Instead, the Hearing Examiner threw the rule out. He ruled that county staff can set the 90% limit aside and keep approving anyway. In one decision, the law that was supposed to protect these roads stopped meaning anything.
</div>
<div>So now there's no brake. What's already approved is coming — that damage is done. But this ruling is a green light for the next wave, and the wave after that, onto roads that already can't handle what's been promised.
</div>
<div>Every approval is permanent. There is no undo button.
</div>
<div>A judge can enforce the law the Hearing Examiner set aside. That's what this appeal does. It's the check that's left.
