Tom Leask Fundraiser

They called it a "traumatic amputation." I listened to the nurse as she described her patient (which happened to be my beloved husband) to the ICU ward. My precious husband lost four of his fingers and part of his palm on his left hand on a seine boat in Southeast Alaska on August 20th. The Capstan Winch is not a friendly piece of machinery. The surgeons at Harborview Medical Center could not reattach his fingers as the damage was far too extensive. After two surgeries during the first five days of being in the hospital Tom had his third surgery on August 25th to reconstruct the hand and apply a skin graft to finally close it up. He will start rehabilitation with a hand/amputee specialist next week at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Hopefully we will be able to return home in two weeks. Even though he is out of the hospital I cannot bring myself to leave him here. He is handling the loss quite well but he (and I) have our moments of tears. I think we will be grieving for a bit and the roller coaster of emotions is normal. If you are willing to donate your donation will help pay any costs related to this accident; bills, unforseen costs for traveling, etc. This will help us stay a float until I can get back to work. I had to leave my two jobs to be with my husband when he was medivaced to Seattle and now Tom will be out of work for quite sometime while he rehabilitates. Unfortunately he won't be paid for this fishing season until next month. This is hard not only financially but emotionally. I still cannot believe that we are in Seattle for something so tragic. It doesn't feel real yet and I know our lives are forever changed. Please keep my precious husband Tom in your prayers. He needs them. I need them. If you know Tom Leask he's the sweetest and most kind human being around. I want to scream, yell and cuss at God for allowing this to happen to such a beautiful person who's spirit is so gentle. He didn't deserve it. In the same breath I thank God that Tom is still here. Breathing. Talking. Even laughing. I'm thankful to God that I can still hear him tell me that he loves me. I love you Tom Leask. You are such a strong man and I adore you. I'm so terribly sorry this happened to you. We'll get through this together. I promise.
