Martial Arts for Foster Kids

Children in foster care have often experienced great turmoil in their lives. As a result, they may struggle with anger, fear, a lack of self-confidence, struggles in school, rocky relationships, or a feeling of overwhelming obstacles in their future.
At Dynamic Martial Arts in Gresham, Oregon, we have been offering a free class every Saturday to help foster kids in our area. They learn confidence, focus, respect, and self-discipline in a supportive, safe environment. As they exercise and gain self-defense skills, they also discover a power within themselves to bring about positive change in their own lives and the lives of the people around them.
The unique ethos of Dynamic Martial Arts is particularly good at meeting the diverse needs of kids in crisis, and a few of them have progressed in their abilities beyond the scope of the free Saturday class. More importantly, they have found a "home" in martial arts as a means to grow in confidence and self-management skills. However, not all have the financial resources to attend the regular classes. For this reason, we are raising money for a scholarship fund that allows us to offer tuition at 50% of the normal cost. Every $400 raised ensures a foster child 6 months of classes (up to five times a week), a uniform, and belts as the child advances through the program.
At Dynamic Martial Arts, building martial artists means growing capable, kind leaders for the rising generation. Let's give these kids an opportunity to find the best in themselves through a sport they have grown to love!
