Harry Our Hero!

Donation protected
This last week our lives have literally been torn apart as we learnt that our sweet, fun loving, always happy (well almost) Harry has a brain tumour. We are devastated but want to do something positive to help him. Last week to get fit we decided to walk virtually from Lands End at the southern tip of England to John O'Groats, the most northerly tip of Scotland, its approximately 1078 miles.

Over the course of the last few weeks, Harry who is usually so full of life became increasingly withdrawn and began talking in a strange voice. Soon after this he began having choking episodes. His amazing mum took him to A&E and after many tests they discovered a foreign object lodged in his throat. He had surgery to remove it and was moved onto the high dependency unit at Alder Hey children's hospital.

Following the surgery Harry's condition continued to deteriorate not improve as we'd hoped. The respiratory consultant grew increasingly concern about him and ordered an MRI scan which sadly showed that Harry has a brain tumour on the stem of his brain that is of significant size. The brain tumour was blocking the nerves to Harry's voice box causing the changes in his voice and prevented Harry's swallow mechanism working which in turn caused food to drop into his lungs and they became badly infected. This in turn lead to further complications which resulted in Harry ending up in intensive care.

We are praying that Harry's infection in his chest will improve significantly allowing him to undergo surgery to remove the tumour some time next week (week beginning 3rd August).

Given the events of the last week we have now decided to walk this walk for Harry. The idea is that we will be walking with him whilst he walks through this tricky time in his little life. We aim to complete it early in the new year, maybe sooner!

If you'd like to walk with us to help raise more money for Harry then dust off your walking boot and sign up by visiting the 'My Virtual Mission' website and signing up to The Length of Britain challenge.

We don't know what the future holds for Harry but we'd like to raise money to help him out if he needs it. If he doesn't and we pray and hope will all of our hearts that this is the case, then we will donate all of the money raised from our walk to a charity that supports children with brain tumours and their families and Alder Hey.
