Asian Assault Victim Faces Eviction
Donation protected
On Thursday, August 3rd, Jane Dao was physically assaulted by their racist and ableist white roommate. During an argument about apartment responsibilities, the roommate became hostile, forced herself into Jane Dao’s room, and tried to steal Jane’s phone. During the altercation, Jane's wrists were twisted and they were shoved backwards resulting in damage to Jane’s finger and wrist. The attacker is twice the size of Jane Dao.
Jane was rushed to urgent care and required a splint and was prescribed pain medication. When Jane confronted the leaseholder about the assault, the leaseholder decided to evict Jane from the apartment, despite Jane being the victim of assault.
With only two weeks before eviction, Jane Dao needs our help.
Funds needed for all medical expenses and moving fees: $3,000
How Jane Dao will utilize the $3,000:
1. Medical expenses: urgent care fees, prescribed pain medication.
2. All move-in expenses including the security deposit and first and last month’s rent.
3. Moving fees: moving company, boxes, packing equipment.
4. Moving company to assist with the physical transportation of personal items, which Jane cannot move given their injury (doctor advised Jane to not lift anything heavier than a toothbrush.)
5. Small financial safety net to compensate for the work days missed during recovery.
