The Kendall Fund, a short story.

January 3rd, 2014, our friend Kendall, was diagnosed HIV+. In April, he began taking anti-retroviral medications. Since April of 2014, he has missed fewer than 10 pills.
After losing his job, he was without insurance for 3 months. Unfortunately, new insurance won't kick in till January 1st. The state of Illinois has a Drug Assistance Program, or ADAP, which has been helping fund medications. Assistance is SO important, because each pill (a pill he takes once a day, for the rest of his life) is just under $90. For a 30 day supply, that quickly adds up to almost $2,700 a month, or $32,400 a year. Even working 47 hours a week now, Kendall can’t keep up with these expenses.
So here he is. No meds left, public health closed for four days. No insurance till the first of January (and that's IF he can pay the first month's premium, which is still tied up in paperwork).
Kendall honestly hates to have to make this appeal. He told me, “Everyone who knows me knows I'm prideful as hell. But at this point, I'm getting desperate. Never have I felt any negative feelings about being HIV+ but lately, it's starting to drag down my spirit, and I've realized the best thing to do is to ask for help.”
But here I am—asking you to help out if you can, in what is hopefully a short-term emergency situation. Short-term, yet deadly serious. And you know what? I think you will—because--
