DIY Healing With Tarot for Youth!

Hello! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Erin Aquarian , a tarot reader and teacher based in Portland, Oregon. I teach the tarot as a tool for self-healing and counsel to people who do not have access to healing/guidance services.
When I was in my mid-twenties, the tarot helped me get out of self-destructive childhood trauma patterns and find a path of healing and purpose. At a time in my life where I was unable to afford therapy/healing services, the tarot helped me gradually improve my mental/emotional state, and start to see possibilities for a better life in my future. For the last eleven years with tarot as my ally, I have made many positive life changes and created a meaningful way of supporting myself and others. For the past six years, I have offered sliding scale/donation based tarot readings and workshops. I am dedicated to making what I know available to people who may not have access to helping services otherwise.
As a tarot reader and community healer, I recognize the need for healing guidance services to be made available and accessible for everyone, especially young people. I believe our systems are failing to meet the whole-person (emotional, intuitive, and spiritual) needs of young people. I also see this population being exploited by what I refer to as "the college industrial complex" as there are few alternatives to high-cost college educations. In my experience, tarot creates a space of acceptance and encouragement that helps people figure out who they are and what they want. The tarot is a teacher, guide and role-model for coping, healthy self-expression and self-actualization. As a reader and teacher, my goal is to help students and clients become more confident in utilizing all that the tarot can offer.
In 2017, I met Isabella Gillespie through a free tarot workshop I led at Anarres Infoshop. Isabella already had two years of tarot experience, but was helped by the way I explained the tarot as a tool for healing. This short workshop followed by my ongoing mentorship has given Isabella a stronger sense of how to use the tarot more effectively for his mental health. We moved to co-create this workshop to promote youth empowerment and healing. Our workshop DIY Healing with Tarot will be held at the amazing youth-centered community space Marrow Pdx.
I am rallying the tarot/healing arts community to raise funds to support this important work!
Your donations will go to:
-paying me for the time and energy I put into creating the curriculum and facilitating/teaching the workshops
-paying Isabella for his time and energy as co-teacher
-paying Marrow for use of the space
-paying for tarot decks and handouts so that all participants can keep their course materials.
It is my hope that this fundraiser will be successful and allow me to continue doing much needed service for the young people of Portland and beyond!
