900km Camino Walk for Divine School Uganda

Donation protected

We are raising money for the children of the Divine Day Care School in Kajjansi, Uganda. Donate or sponsor our Camino de Santiago 900km walk and help provide the Divine children with an education and a future. We would all be eternally grateful... Please read our story and visit any links. Thank you :-)  DivineDayCare.net

This is no ordinary school...

The Divine school caters for disadvantaged children, handicapped, those with HIV, orphans, the physically and psychologically challenged, special needs and albino children just to name a few categories. All these children would never have the chance for any type of education if it were not for people like Deborah Gita. Just the stigma attached to all the above listed would discriminate them from enrollment at any other school.

Helping children from the ages of 3 to 10 years old, and about 20 out of the 80 children actually live at the school, some because they are orphaned, some because their parents live so far away and some due to the fact that their home life is not safe to live in. This means that there are staff 24hrs a day at the Divine school. The staff are not simply teachers here, they are also therapists and medically trained.

How it all began...

Deborah Gita Flavia, RN, BScN, is the founder of the Divine Day Care Nursery and Junior School. She is also the director and Nursing officer in charge of the facility. A proud Ugandan, married with three adult children and a lifelong passion for helping children from all walks of life, backgrounds and circumstances, especially the more disadvantaged.

Her main role involves coordinating and ensuring that the facility runs well, from the day to day running of the programs at the facility to health assessments and nursing care of the children, plus collaborating (networking) with appropriate medical facilities and professionals to ensure that the children receive the necessary care and attention as well as adequate education.

Education in Uganda is NOT free!

My name is Steve Stachini ( from the blackstar.STUDIO) and I am English and my wife's name is Charity (from Ji-ai Fashion House ) who is from Uganda, though we both live in Spain. During my two year stay in Uganda, I was introduced to the Divine Day Care School which became my chosen charitable work. In order to raise awareness for the school, I swiftly produced an online presence by means of their first ever website. These children deserve an education...

We have spent much time at the school on numerous visits and continue to be advocates for such a worthy cause.

In the Western world we take so many things for granted and ironically, in one of the poorest countries in the world, education comes at a cost. There is virtually no government funding or aid for local schools and so expenses come from donations or from parents who can afford to pay.

As the Divine school is made up of disadvantaged children then naturally very few parents can ever afford to educate these children and rely on the generosity and kind nature of people like Deborah, and people like you and me who take an interest in the welfare and care of future generations.

Where your money goes...

It sounds crazy to think that for only about €10 per week a child at Divine is guaranteed an education, support, medical attention and development for a future.  The reality is that many parents in Uganda cannot afford this and children suffer. Deborah takes up the slack and takes on extra work herself by working at a university in order to try and help subsidise these shortfalls rather than having to stop children from attending her school. This is very courageous and commendable of her, but it isn't the answer.

This is why your help, your donations are so crucially and desperately needed and will literally change lives.

School Fees per child per term: €126  (including meals).
School Fees per child per term: €216 (including boarding and meals).
School Fees per child per year: €378 (including meals).
School Fees per child per year: €648 (including boarding and meals).

Breakdown of expenditure:

School uniforms / clothing per child: €35 (per year: €2,800)
Transportation per child to/from school per term: €72 (per year: €216).
Property Rent and running costs per month: €300 (per year: €3,600).
Staff per month: €800 (per year: €9,600).
Medical expenditure per month: €150 (per year: €1,800).
Educational books and equipment: €4,200+ per year.
Insurances and miscellaneous expenditure: €3,600 per year.
Food and fire wood per month: €700 (per year: €8,400).

...and Deborah Gita doesn't even take a wage!

There are many ways to help...

If you really cannot afford to donate at this moment in time then please help by Liking, Sharing and Following.

Sadly in today's world the main way to help provide an education, care and a future for these children is money. I know it is a cliche but every penny really does help. It is not only the future of these children but of all the children who will join the Divine school year after year. Remember that none of these children stand a chance in life without the Divine School and Deborah Gita.

So please donate whatever you can afford or sponsor a child's education for a term or a year. If you are a business or have deeper pockets, then why not pay for one of the schools annual expenses, become a patron, be an advertised sponsor... there are many options for the likes of you and me, but very few options for the disadvantaged children of Kajjansi, Uganda.

Camino sponsored walk for Divine...

After much expense, time, energy, heartache and bureaucratic government paperwork, eventually Charity was allowed to travel to Europe and we were reunited in June 2018. Wasting no time, I met her at Madrid airport and we made our way to St. Jean Pied de Port in France to start the Camino de Santiago. Our aim was to complete the whole walk and raise money for the school.

However, sadly we failed through our lack of preparation. We soon discovered that simple things such as charging mobile phones on a daily basis was not so easy, and the lack of contact didn't allow us to drive the fund raising campaign for the school as we had intended. But we had already started the Camino so we continued it all the way to Finisterre and beyond, walking over 900km in total.

Never defeated...

We would love to do the same Camino de Santiago walk again with your help :-) and this time raise some money for the Divine School both before we leave and during our next attempt. We learned so much last year and this time we would love to post daily to Go Fund Me so that viewers and the children of Divine can follow our progress.

Part of our problem last time was that we were using our mobile phones to take photos which added to the issue of draining our battery power. This time we shall take a camera and upload images to a cloud server for everyone to view. The Divine children get so excited to have contact with us...

Sponsor our tent / our clothing :-)

Yes, Charity and I shall be camping en-route and not staying in Alberge accommodation. We would love to encourage any business sponsorship for our Camino adventure. In return we shall brand our tent with your corporate logo and wear sponsorship clothing for the entire journey. Plus provide you with online exposure on our websites and social media platforms and more...

This campaign will help kick start the next one...

The Divine school desperately needs a mini bus as this is their only form of transportation, often cramming as many as thirteen children into one very old estate car. We are hoping that our Camino sponsored walk will kick start the next campaign for a new vehicle. But first we need to stabilise the schools finances and help keep it up and running...

If you work within the motor vehicle trade, then why not donate a car, minibus or van! After all it is tax deductible :-) and we personally will wrap it with advertising and drive it ourselves to Uganda if need be. In return we will provide your company with great online publicity and exposure along with a "feel good" story.

Your support will seriously help change lives!
