Hello Friends!
I have created this page to raise funds for tuition for my enrollment into an online Certificate Program for Diversity and Inclusion with Cornell University. I have included the link to the website so you can read more about the program. I'd like to tell you why I am so committed to enrolling in this program.
After spending nearly 30 years of my career in various areas of the food space, I see we have finally come to a place where real change is possible for the industry as a whole. I've loved being part of the food world, and I love the people who come to work in it. This industry excepts everyone the way they are. Often, the restaurant industry is the first place people go for work: immigrants, young people, and formerly incarcerated. It is very diverse, but can also be segregated along race, gender and ethnicity. Problems with harassment, bullying, racism and sexism have been ingrained in the food service culture forever, and now it is time to change.
I am planning on devoting the second half of my career to causing this shift in the food service culture. This course is the basis upon which I plan to build and create better programs and policies for employers, trainings for employees and conversations to shift the culture permanently.
The program is an 8 week course, consisting of four two-week classes: Improving Engagement, Counteracting Unconscious Bias, Diversity and Inclusion at Work, and Fostering an Inclusive Climate.
I am particularly excited about this program as Cornell professors will be teaching these courses. Cornell is home to one of the best Hospitality Departments in the world. So there is no better education to be had!
The tuition for the 8 week course is $3600, but they are offering a 30% discount . So I am looking to raise $2600. The course begins every two weeks.
I am offering the following to those who donate:
for a $25 donation - a bag of holiday cookies for Thanksgiving, Christmas or Hanukkah or whatever you celebrate.
for a $50 donation - a pie of your choice! And you know I can make pie....
for a $100 donation - 2 hours of Diversity and Inclusion training for your staff either in person or on Zoom, after the course is completed
for a $200 donation - 4 hours of Diversity and Inclusion training for your staff either in person or on Zoom, after the course is completed
As I am also a bookkeeper, I can offer bookkeeping services at the same rate.
