OVARIAN CANCER – The silent killer for women
“I am sorry to tell you Elsa, but I have bad news for you…your CT scan shows you have advanced stage Ovarian Cancer”. These are the words that came from my former doctor’s mouth. How many of you think they will hear these words? We all hope we DO NOT hear them.
As some of you know, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer in September 2017. I have received chemotherapy, had a very invasive surgery, more chemotherapy, and a trial drug. In February of 2019 I was told that my body is not responding to chemotherapy and was given a medication to prolong the progression of this deadly disease. As of right now, there is no cure for my cancer and cell type.
Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecological cancer and takes the lives of more than 15,000 women each year. Ovarian cancer is the 5th leading cause of cancer related deaths in women. My family has been shaken by the events of this and we need your help.
On Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Porteau Cove we will be hosting a “Dive for Ovarian Cancer”. In addition to the dive, and with the generous help from the Fraser Valley Scuba Club, we will be holding a BBQ lunch fundraiser with the proceeds going to Ovarian Cancer Canada.
