Hello!
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
We are fundraising for the start-up costs for the Dissociative Society of Canada, an organization dedicated to the education and advocacy of Canadians living with a Dissociative Disorder.
What is a Dissociative Disorder, you might ask? A Dissociative Disorder, as defined by DSM and International Diagnostic Criteria (ICD), are 4 psychiatric conditions with chronic dissociation, and they are:
Dissociative Identity Disorder And it’s subsets (OSDD and poly fragmentation)
Depersonalization
Derealisation
Dissociative Amnesia
As of right now, roughly 1.1 million Canadians live with a Dissociative Disorder, and more likely than not without the specialized support and advocacy. Due to a lack of awareness and education within the medical and mental health communities, these specialized supports are few and far between and often privatized. This often leads to a difficult choice: survive or thrive?
The Dissociative Society of Canada hopes to eradicate this choice and help Canadians thrive with these disorders with a location in every province and territory by not only offering therapeutic supports, but;
- training for mental health and healthcare professionals
- Medical and dental health care for our clientele
- Advocacy and policy
- Community outreach
- Legal supports
And our eventual goal is to be in every province and territory, and have our information and support offered in FR, EN & regional Indigenous languages
But we need your help! Building a not for profit from the ground is expensive. We are raising a minimum of 9K for the following:
- website translation into Indigenous languages (3200)
- Website translation into French (1000 cad)
- Website development of the translations (3000)
- The remaining 1800$ will take care of Go Fund Me’s fees and provide some breathing room for any other incidentals that may come up during the process.
