Bryan (Jacob) is a pretty incredible 14 year old. He has a big, creative heart full of love and humor. He is wise, insightful and very intelligent in many areas.
At the same time, he struggles with academics. Many people, including some teachers, insist Bryan is perfectly capable, but just "lazy", "distracted," or "inattentive."
The truth is, this isn't the case. Bryans brain isn't wired the same way as everyone else. He tested low in his cognitive abilites on the WISC-V; specifically in visual spatial (14th percentile) and processing speed (2nd percentile). Which means he cannot process what is being said, and he is losing chuncks of information. As a result, he has to try harder than almost every other person in the class and often just gives up.
The good news is, there is a program called Discovery,
the DISCOVERY PROGRAM, a member of the National Institute of Learning Development, Chesapeake, VA, is a program of preventive, corrective, and supportive intervention for students who struggle to learn. They would take those two areas of weaknesses in Bryan and design a program just for him. Focusing and hitting those two areas until they increased.
This is an amazing opportunity for Bryan to change his life, to be able to work to the best of his ability. It will change the way he feels about himself - he will become more confident and more capable.
The program is only offered in this area through Kings Academy, a Christian private school.
After scholarships, there is about $3,000.00 left to pay. I have another child that is mentally ill and I am supporting that child at this time, and I just cannot do it all.
So, I am humbly and graciously asking my community to pitch in and support Bryan. Enrollment is currently going on so I need to start raising funds immediately.
