 About
The PillowFort Collective is a progressive group of arts managers, brought together by Humber College’s Arts Administration and Cultural Management program. We work with motivated and innovative artists, offering our expertise in arts administration to streamline the artistic process, reach a wider audience and relieve the pressure on artists so that their focus can be on creation. We are proud to be presenting Kristy Boyce and her sensational series. We look forward to delivering a successful culminating Capstone project for our certificate program, demonstrating our competency and skills as arts managers.

The Event

Disciples of Dorothy is a one-night dynamic pop-up exhibition taking place on April 2, 2020, and will include both visual art and live drag performances. It is an artist-led and student project featuring a series of portraits of drag artists re-contextualized within the visual traditions of western art history on how LGBTQ+ people have been left out of classic iconography and their quest to create their own, shot by photographer Kristy Boyce.  By blending aspects of religious iconography with modern drag characters, a new sacred is created, reflecting (often in a tongue in cheek way,) values and tenets of queer culture. As well as the expression, silliness, and joy that are present in the art and performance of drag and gender nonconformity. Throughout the event several drag artists will perform, activating the space alongside their portraits to encourage audience members to engage in dialogue with both elements.

Kristy Boyce is an award-winning photographer and multimedia visual artist based in Toronto, Canada and has been published and exhibited worldwide. Originally from Thunder Bay Ontario, she began her career as a photojournalist in Africa and Southeast Asia. Boyce's work focuses on social and human rights issues and seeks to explore society’s “others”.
