My parents, Charles and Barbara McDaniel, just lost their home in Boone, North Carolina due to catastrophic flooding.
Their home has been condemned due to the foundation crumbling from flood damage. They have been in a motel since Monday Nov 6th, 2017.
Their home and loss from flood damage is not covered by their home owners insurance.
Their home is on a hillside and the recent massive flood washed out part of the hillside and ruined part of the foundation and the some of the house walls are now starting to crack.
Many people don't carry this sort of flood insurance becasue this sort of flooding in Boone in very rare, but these are unusual times. Boone has been declared a disaster area.
They also dont qualify for Medicaid Nursing Home for various reasons.
They are wonderful people who have Loved, Served, and Given to many All their lives. Now, it's their time to receive support during their time of need.
They owned their home and are on limited income. They are 85 and 84 and both have major health challenges.
My dad is in a wheel chair full time and on kidney dialysis 3 times a week. My Mom has various health challenges. They have a live-in caregiver.
They are all staying in a hotel right now-the three of them. We are waiting to hear from FEMA what support they can get, but that could take many months to kick in.
Right now, we need funds to help them stay temporarily in the hotel. Then, find and secure a new apartment or home to live in.
We are setting up a separate bank account to transfer these donations into. They will be used specifically to get them through this emergency housing situation and stabilized.
They have lived in their home for over 40 years and it was paid off along time ago.
Their limited income does not include paying rent again. They need time to adjust to it somehow. This fund will help them cover their rent.
They will need at least a 2 Bedroom/2 Bath-ideally a 3BR/2B in Boone, North Carolina. We are also looking in the Hickory area where my sister lives and rent is cheaper. If you know of any rentals, please let us know.
Emergency housing is the first priority, but these funds will also help cover their extensive personal care and medical expenses as needed.
Your contributions will be received immediately and are secure. We can withdraw funds right away as needed-even before the $20,000 goal is met.
