Hi, my name is Christopher, I'm originally from Florida, but have been living in Sweden for 12yrs now. For several months I have been reluctant to ask for help from sources like this. I'm a disabled veteran (80%), unemployed since March 2019 due to disabilities & injuries, now recently evicted (since 30 June 2020). I'm currently battling my ex-girlfriend in court over money she owes me from loans 218,000SEK ($25,000) she refuses to pay back. I was lucky to qualify for legal aid to pay for my legal fees during this process. The reason I was evicted was because she broke a cohabitation agreement we had by terminating the lease with the landlord. Our signed agreement stated I would be allowed to continue living in our shared apartment until I moved back to the US. It also stated that she would have to pay me back 20,000SEK ($2,000) for my share of the rent deposit once she received it from the landlord. She received the 20,000SEK ($2,000) from the landlord over a month ago, but refuses to pay me back even this portion. I'm also currently in the process of requesting my disability rating with the Dept. of Veteran Affairs, be increased for my service-connected disabilities, but unfortunately that process is taking a very long time. I applied and submitted disability claims in Aug. 2019, due to COVID-19 it seems so many issues with the VA have been drastically slowed down. I have been dealing with Swedish doctors to complete so many medical examinations and fill out documents for me to submit to the VA for my claims. Currently, I'm staying at a place in Stockholm, called Hotelljouren. It's like a combination of temporary efficiency rooms for homeless individuals and families in financial hardships, however the cost is not cheap. Everyone here except me receives some kind of financial assistance from Swedish Social Services or Gov't Insurance organization. I have applied for assistance from these, but have been denied since I already receive disability compensation from the VA. Unfortunately, the amount of monthly compensation I am currently receiving doesn't always cover the cost of living for me these past few months and I haven't had enough money for food throughout the months a couple of times. I wouldn't even need to ask for help through GoFundMe if my ex simply payed me back for the loans, so now I am stuck waiting for the court system to hopefully not let me down; but even that is taking a longer time, due to COVID-19. The reason why I am now humbly asking for 3000SEK through GoFundMe, is because I have calculated my cost of living for the next 3-4 months while waiting on both either the VA to approve my claims and/or the Swedish courts to rule in my favor to order my ex to pay me back. Thank you for your time and compassion.
