Disabled People in the Solomon Islands

Hi, my name is Chris. I have had a long association with the Solomon Islands. I go there for the purpose of providing help with basic needs such as medicine, clothing and food. I also assist families to pay school fees, as there is no government funding for education. However, in recent years I have been become increasingly aware of the plight of disabled and disadvantaged adults and children in the villages. There is virtually no government support for vulnerable people and often they simply wander the roadsides as many families do not, or cannot provide adequate care for them. Through this appeal I plan to provide the funds for a central shelter on the island of Malaita where food and basic supplies can be provided. This would become known as a haven for marginalised people, and a base for others to collect food and clothing for them. I will also be employing two local women to cook and deliver meals to those in need, or to buy rice and vegetables for the old or unwell.

Any assistance given will be greatly appreciated. This is truly a grassroots project; every dollar you give will go directly to those in need. (There are no administration costs!)
