Disability Swimming Pool for Kaylee

Donation protected
Please help Kaylee walk again!  Kaylee (age 9) with  Down Syndrome, has a hip injury that has confined her to a wheelchair.  Her condition is called Avascular Necrosis, which is the death of bone tissue due to lack of blood supply.  The condition can worsen without adequate care.  Currently she is in physical therapy and swimming is the only activity that she is allowed to do.  Doctors want her in the wheelchair full time if she is not swimming.  Swimming is the best thing for her and will help her keep the range of motion she has, as well as helps with the constant pain.

The most heartbreaking part of Kaylee's situation is that she did not receive proper care when her hip slipped out of place after a fall on ice.  Despite many calls and trips to the doctor, because of her inability to communicate her location of pain, the correct diagnosis was not made.  Finally, a trip to ER and a insightful doctor who took x-rays identified the problem which is called SCFE (Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis).  In the best case scenario, Kaylee would have had a surgery within 24/48 hours of the injury. Instead, she had to wait 17 days. Finally Kaylee had surgery and pins placed in both hips, but because of the weeks without blood flow to the bone, it is permanently affected.  However, if Kaylee is able to build her muscle tone and lose weight as a result of swimming everyday, she will likely be able to walk again.

Kaylee is an incredibly sweet-natured child.  Our hearts break for her as she can only watch the other children play from her wheelchair.  We were advised to reach out for help to provide her with a disability pool quicker than we can afford one on our own, because of her immediate needs.  If you have it in your hearts and are able, please help us help our angel!!! Thank you and God bless!!
