Danny Guduru is a twenty year old student from Hyderabad, India, completing his junior year of studies at Indiana Tech University in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
So what’s the problem?
Like many of us, the unexpected onset of COVID-19 has struck Danny-and his family in India. Although all of them have escaped the medical ravages of the
disease, the financial costs to Danny’s parents’ business have been catastrophic. Danny’s parents own a business which rents cars and drivers to those with business or family needs for transportation. Obviously the last nine months with
mandatory quarantines and lockdowns have dramatically reduced the need or desire for travel which has taken a terrible toll on family income. Fortunately, the family’s basic needs in India are covered, but any opportunity for additional money
to fund Danny’s education is being lost to the pandemic. Because he is a foreign
student the normal methods of financing college, such as loans, are not open to
him. His scholarships and grants do not pay completely for his tuition.
Why do we care?
Danny came to the US a week after his eighteenth birthday and had a difficult
time his first semester-suffering all the cultural challenges and loneliness you
would expect. Then one day a member of our campus ministry heard Danny
playing piano in the chapel and invited him to join our group. Since that time he
has selflessly given of his time in church and our Bible studies. We have seen his
heart to serve people and demonstrate the love of Christ on campus and within
our community of young adults. We have also seen his constant desire to return
to India to be able to be a blessing to community and his family.
What’s happening now?
Danny has reduced his expenses as far as possible. He no longer lives in the dorms at school, but instead is living off-site at no cost to him. Most of his meals are paid for by his housing hosts and he is very frugal in his spending. In addition to his full academic load, he is working at the maximum level allowed by his student visa
and applying all the proceeds from his job to his tuition.
What’s the hurry?
Danny needs funds by January 15, 2021, to continue his schooling. Without
payment on his tuition, he will not be able to enroll for the spring semester. If he’s not in school, he will be in violation of his visa and will need to return to India without completing his education. It is highly unlikely he would ever have the
opportunity to return. 100% of the funds raised through this campaign will be
applied directly to his tuition.
