This amazing woman needs a helping hand. Her name is Dione Russell and she is a single mother of 13 year old twin boys and a 12 year old daughter. She is the
Youth/Young Adult Director at the Calvary United Methodist Church, in Colorado Springs. Her sense of humor is contagious, her faith is strong and she
has helped countless people in and out of her church. These attributes have always helped her through difficult situations, including the unexpected April 28
death of her mother. In July she discovered a mass in her left breast even though her February mammogram was clear. After her initial doctor’s appointment and biopsy it was determined that the mass was an aggressive cancer and she would
need a mastectomy. Surgery was performed on August 22 along with the preliminaries for breast reconstruction. All was thought to be OK until the
surgical pathology was returned. There was still cancerous tissue present along the tumor parameters under her skin. On September 5 she underwent a
successful second surgery. At the present time all of the cancer has been removed. She is doing well physically and has been able to go back to work. The new twist to her story is her medical insurance is not going to cover all of the hospital costs. Her current bills total around $7,000. I am hoping we can raise money for her and the cancer nightmare will be over. Over, but never forgotten. That is something she will carry with her the rest of her life. She has already reached out to women on facebook to pay attention to their bodies and not to ignore changes. Early detection is the key to a cure.
