My name is Dion Cunningham and I recently graduated from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University with a Master's of Music in Piano Performance. I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Maryland. I am from the Bahamas and it is my hope to be the first person in my nation's history to receive a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
Prior to commencing studies at the graduate level, I spent 5 years teaching at the primary and high school levels in my country as well as performing with local ensembles. I am passionate about the transforming power of music to bring about social change as well as affording talented Bahamians the opportunity to develop and share their artistic talents with the world. Upon completion of my studies, not only do I hope to be a musical ambassador for my country, but also to create a world-class performing arts institute in the Bahamas. Additionally, I would like to create a Music Education Foundation to give young aspiring talent the opportunity to receive the best training and exposure the world has to offer.
However, in order to continue my studies, there are considerable costs and though I have sacrificed greatly, I am simply unable to cover all of them through my current work and recitals. Would you consider making a donation? All monies raised will be used for educational expenses. Those that contribute $100 or more will receive my CD of classical and gospel piano favorites. Those that contribute $200 or more will receive my CD of classical and gospel piano favorites as well as 2 complimentary tickets to my next recital to be announced in 2014. For those not based in the Bahamas, a DVD of that recital will be sent to you. Those that contribute $500 or more will receive my CD of classical and gospel piano favorites, 5 complimentary tickets to my next recital to be announced in 2014 as well as a mention on my next recital program as my personal patrons.
