Hi, I am Sherrie Graeve and I am writing on behalf of the Butrous family. My friendship with Lisa and her family goes way back to Westbrook elementary, and our time spent volunteering together at the school. They need your help!
As many of you know, Dillon was found on June 10th unresponsive on Maple Street in Omaha. He had a body temperature of 108.6 degrees as a result of hyper-thermia, probably caused by a synthetic drug overdose. This was a life-threatening situation! Dillon was in a coma for 5 days, in the Intensive Care Unit for 7, and continues to be in-patient at Methodist. He has suffered a brain injury from the high body temperature, as well as liver issues and ongoing drug interactions. The hospital is continuing to have a hard time placing him in a long-term care facility because of the psychological and medical issues, as well as insurance denials. While the family is working very hard to obtain disability and Medicaid coverage for Dillon, this is going to be quite a long road, both emotionally and financially, for Dillon and his family.
Since I have heard about what happened with Dillon I have felt very helpless, wanting to do something but not sure where to start. I know that I am not alone, and there are many of you in this same place. I broached the subject of a Go Fund Me account with the family, and of course, in true Butrous fashion, they declined as they did not want to be a burden. As the reality of what Dillon was going to be facing set in, and with quite a bit of cajoling, I was able to get approval to get this set up for them.
As someone who works in the insurance field, I have seen what a medical/psychological emergency can do to a family. While insurance is helpful in covering many things, there are such large deductibles, and out of pocket expenses on policies these days. This does not even take into consideration the costs of necessary treatment that is not covered by insurance that you just cannot foresee, along with time lost from work so you are able to support your loved one.
This account is set up in the Butrous Family name so they can use it to help cover the expenses of Dillon’s care. Please donate what you can! Every cent is appreciated and will make such a difference! Thank you all for taking the time to read this and support Dillon and his family!
