                      DIGNITY FOR WONDER

                                Shared Humanity
Hello, my name is Kurtis. I live in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA.

Suffering and indignity have no boarders, so are human compassion and generosity.

This is the story of Wonder, a 24-year-old mentally and physically impaired young man who lives outside Accra, Ghana. He cannot do anything for himself because of his debilitating multiple disabilities. (Watch video)
As someone who has worked directly with persons with physical and cognitive impairments here in the United States, Wonder’s plight is close to my heart.

Unfortunately, even in richer countries like the United States, people with physical and developmental disabilities still face some stigma, stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination in spite of the tremendous progress made in the past three decades.

But in the developing world, progress in the lives of the mentally challenged has been painfully slow, leaving many to suffer in silence.
With your help, we will shed light on their isolation and deprivation one life at a time. The near-tragic story of Wonder speaks to our common humanity. Together, we can make a difference.

Don’t let geography restrain you.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN WONDER’S LIFE. PLEASE DONATE AND SHARE!!

Help give Wonder the dignity he deserves!!!

THANKS.
                         Wonder’s story in brief

A couple of months ago, while grazing up and down social media, I stumbled on a Facebook footage that froze me in place for its abject inhumanity.
It was aGHOne (Ghana) video of a mentally and physically challenged 24-year-old man, Wonder, who lives with his parents outside Accra, Ghana, in heart-wrenching conditions.

Wonder’s life is far from wonderful

In addition to his crippling physical and mental condition, he lives in a dusty enclosure infested with ducks and hazardous solid waste that pose imminent danger to his health and safety.

Wonder can’t talk. He can’t walk.

His living conditions as shown and described in the video and confirmed by his mother, tell a harrowing human tragedy that needs to be remedied.
But Wonder’s parents are too poor to give him the support and dignity he needs.
So I called up the hesitant human in me to do something about it: help raise funds to give Wonder a life of dignity.

Then I reached out to GHOne (Ghana) through the director of International Child Development Program (ICDP GHANA ), a local nonprofit organization focused on the vulnerable and the deprived. I am, therefore, grateful to ICDP GHANA for making it possible for me to contact the Wonder family. I am equally gratified by the organization’s overwhelming collaboration and commitment to Wonder’s dignity campaign.

    Wonder’s immediate and long-term needs/support

The goal of this campaign is to raise enough money to provide wonder with:

·          Medical attention

·         A decent bedroom away from the ducks and the                   hazardous solid waste

·         Rehabilitative technology such as a wheelchair for                mobility

·         Supplies for personal hygiene

·         Sustainable support

                                       Where does my donation go?

All your donations go to the Wonder Dignity Fund, which is specifically set up for his immediate and long-term needs/support. I will post frequent updates here and on social media regarding the progress we are making together. In addition, I will send out personal outreaches via emails and texts to donors and prospective contributors about how their kind gestures are making a difference in Wonder’s life.

PLEASE SHARE!!!
Your comments will be highly appreciated.

THANKS FOR YOUR DONATION!
