Dignity for Divas Fundraising

We are students at the University of Washington and we are asking our friends and family (and their friends and family) to join us in a special fundraising effort to benefit the women in our community in honor of International Women's Day.
Each of us is a leader of a different student group at UW that supports the women on our campus. Together, we represent MBA Women in Business, Undergraduate Women in Business, MBA Male Allies and the Women's Law Caucus. Throughout the school year, we work to plan events, bring special guest speakers to campus, organize community activities, and drive conversations to support the women in our programs. But today, for 24 hours, we are turning all of our energy to fundraising on behalf of Dignity for Divas, a local non-profit organization that supports the most vulnerable women in our community.
Beginning at 5:00 p.m. on March 7, we will be staffing booths around campus where we will sell purple ribbons -- purple is the color that symbolizes solidarity with women -- in exchange for donations to Dignity for Divas. We will encourage our fellow students and faculty to wear purple to show their support of women all over the world who have gained the right to vote. And to show our own support for the women in our community, we are amplifying our fundraising efforts with a goal to raise $6,000.
Dignity for Divas' mission is to restore hope and dignity to women experiencing homelessness by reminding them they matter and reconnecting them with their “Inner Diva,” as well as to support and encourage women who are in transition from being homeless as they walk the path toward a self-sustaining life. D4D distributes "Survival Kits" filled with personal care items, such as feminine hygiene products, and basic necessities like blankets and water to women sleeping unsheltered in the Greater Seattle Area.
Founded by Nikki Gane — who has experienced homelessness herself— Dignity for Divas has distributed over 25,000 Diva Survival Kits since it first began operating in 2012.
By the numbers:
A Single Survival Kit costs about $6.
Seattle is estimated to have more than 8,000 men and women who are currently experiencing homelessness.
With our fundraising drive, we hope to be able to show our support to 1,000 women, letting them know that they are cared for.
Please help us contribute to the incredible service that Nikki and her team are providing to the most vulnerable women in our community by contributing to our International Women's Day fundraiser.
