<div>Het verhaal van Carmen, Sebastian en hun zoon August is er een van angst, onzekerheid en verdriet, maar bovenal van ongelooflijk veel kracht en doorzettingsvermogen.

<div>Hun lieve zoon August kwam op 17 april 2026 geheel onverwachts ter wereld na slechts 25 weken zwangerschap. Wat begon als een stedentrip van Carmen met haar beste vriendinnen, veranderde plotseling in een nachtmerrie. Ver van huis, in een ziekenhuis in Barcelona, begon August aan de grootste strijd van zijn jonge leven.

<div>Vanaf het eerste moment liet August zien hoe sterk hij is. In zijn korte leven heeft hij al meer meegemaakt dan veel mensen in een heel leven: operaties, infecties en ontelbaar veel bloedtesten en onderzoeken. Ondanks alle tegenslagen blijft hij vechten en verrast hij zijn ouders iedere dag opnieuw met zijn kracht en veerkracht.

<div>Ook voor Carmen en Sebastian is deze periode ongelooflijk zwaar geweest. Van de ene op de andere dag werden zij ondergedompeld in een wereld van medische termen, bloedwaardes en monitoralarmen. Zaken waar geen enkele ouder ooit mee geconfronteerd zou moeten worden, laat staan in een vreemd land waar zij niemand kennen en de taal niet spreken.

<div>Inmiddels verblijven zij al bijna vijf maanden in Barcelona. Gelukkig is de situatie van August nu eindelijk stabiel genoeg om de volgende stap te zetten: een overplaatsing naar Denemarken, hun thuisland. Dit brengt hen niet alleen dichter bij huis, maar ook dichter bij de steun van familie en vrienden.

<div>Helaas worden de kosten voor deze reis niet vergoed door de verzekering, waardoor alle bijkomende uitgaven voor eigen rekening zijn. Daarom zijn Carmen en Sebastian ontzettend dankbaar voor iedere bijdrage, groot of klein. Elke vorm van steun helpt hen om deze bijzondere en uitdagende reis voort te zetten en brengt hen een stap dichter bij een toekomst samen, dichter bij huis.

<div>Their beloved son August was born unexpectedly on April 17, 2026, after just 25 weeks of pregnancy. What began as a city trip for Carmen and her closest friends suddenly turned into a nightmare. Far from home, in a hospital in Barcelona, August began the greatest battle of his young life.

<div>From the very first moment, August showed just how strong he is. In his short life, he has already experienced more than many people do in a lifetime: surgeries, infections, and countless blood tests and medical examinations. Despite all the setbacks, he continues to fight and amazes his parents every single day with his strength and resilience.

<div>This period has also been incredibly difficult for Carmen and Sebastian. Overnight, they found themselves immersed in a world of medical terminology, blood test results, and the constant sounds of monitoring equipment. These are challenges no parent should ever have to face, let alone in a foreign country where they know no one and do not speak the language.

<div>They have now been living in Barcelona for almost five months. Thankfully, August’s condition has finally become stable enough for the next step: a transfer to Denmark, their home country. This will not only bring them closer to home, but also closer to the support of family and friends.
</div>

<div>Unfortunately, the costs of this journey are not covered by their insurance, leaving all additional expenses to be paid out of pocket. For this reason, Carmen and Sebastian are deeply grateful for every contribution, no matter how large or small. Every act of support helps them continue this extraordinary and challenging journey and brings them one step closer to a future together, closer to home.
