Diane is Fighting Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Diane Schlie welcomed her first grandson, Sebastian in July of 2015.  Only 47 years old, Diane (formerly Ackerman, born Tatro) was looking forward to many happy, active years playing together with him and watching him grow up.  Just 5 months later she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

After two months of scans, biopsies, prodding and testing we learned that it was Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer and that it had spread to her lymph nodes and her bones.  With no way to physically remove the cancer from the bones, surgery would not help and medication was the only viable option.

Fortunately a new medications were available.   Combined with other drugs they have managed to keep the cancer from spreading to other organs.  They have even reduced or eliminated the cancer in the lymph nodes and breast.  Unfortunately, keeping the cancer from spreading is all the drugs can do, it has not been completely eliminated.

All of the drugs do take a toll on the body however and my wife was forced to go on long-term disability from her job.  It has been almost a year on disability and the drugs are still keeping her from returning to work.  She will be going onto permanent disability in May of 2018.  This means we will have to pay even more for health insurance.

All of the medical bills have been a huge drain and we have not been able to keep up.  Our savings are almost gone and the increased cost of health insurance is going to make matters much worse.

We are seeking donations to cover our medical costs.  We have reached the max on insurance every year since the diagnosis  and I believe that will continue to be the case.

Sebastian really loves his Nana and thanks to advances in cancer treatments he has been able to spend some quality time with her these last few years.  My goal is to make sure Sebastian and his new baby brother Killian are able to continue to spend lots of time with her in the years to come.

Thank you very much for your support,
