I am a 69 yr old woman living alone with social security income of under $1000 per month. I get by as best I can. I have overcome hardship more than once and am filled with gratitude for the life I have. But I need to ask for help.
Several of my teeth were knocked out and several more loosened. The cost of the surgery and extractions and dentures is not covered by insurance and is more than I am able to pay by myself. With my teeth in this condition it is impossible for me to get proper nutrition, and I am at higher risk of stroke due to the poor oral health.
I am asking for help to obtain the dental work needed. And the need is more than medical. There is a cosmetic aspect as well, though it is not vanity . I am ashamed to smile, so I just don't smile. I am very self conscious of my appearance. I volunteer my time to causes which benefit the low income and the homeless people in my community. I would like to be able to do more to advocate for homeless people. I believe that having a better appearance will make me a more effective and credible advocate when dealing with the public.
I have done my homework and obtained estimates. Clinics were in the range of $9000 & up for the work I need. I have decided to go to the A.T. Still University, a dental school in the east valley. Their estimate of just under $5000 is possible because the work is all done by students. Online reviews show that their work is highly professional and satisfactory to their clients. I am trying to raise $2800 which is the amount needed for the initial procedures. I will try to save enough to cover the remaining $2000 in the next year to complete the work needed.
I am seeking help because it isn’t possible for me to get this done on my own. Without help, I have no hope of this happening. I have survived brutal domestic violence, poverty, homelessness and more. There have been wonderful people along the way who have been supportive. I am not ready to give up now. Please help me over this hurdle.
