Diabetes Supplies for Wibey

My daughter Georgie's kitty, Wibey (pronounced why-bee), is a recently diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic. Ten days ago, after Wibey experienced significant weight loss and displayed some odd behaviors, our vet explained to us that he is diabetic. Diabetic food did not correct his high blood sugar, so we were instructed to start insulin twice per day. One bottle of insulin is $175 and will last nearly a month and a half. His syringes are $40 for 50 days worth. I am a single mom of two children with a very tight budget and lower income. Pandemic protocol caused me not to work for longer than expected this year. Georgie is very perceptive and she knows this is going to be a burden. She feels responsible for taking care of Wibey and has guilt that she can't help pay for his medicine. As my very matter-of-fact, logical-thinking daughter said, "Why not just ask if anyone can help?"
Message from Georgie: "Wibey is my best friend and we have to pay a lot of money. Please help my mom and please help Wibey. Wibey helps me sleep and I need him in my life. I need him to be take cared of. I've had Wibey for my whole life and I've always cared about him and I don't want him to die from diabetes. I know he can't live forever but I need him to be healthy so I can have him longer than now."
Wibey has been a member of our family since the day he was born in the summer of 2011. Georgie was born in April of 2012. Wibey became immediately attached to her. They were both lazy little sleepy heads who quickly developed into the cutest, most special, inseparable pair. Georgie is a JOY and has struggled with anxiety. She's empathetic when listening to other people talk about THEIR feelings, anxious when discussing her own feelings, yet deeply emotional in her description of her relationship with Wibey. He is her security blanket. As much as Georgie appreciates this connection, so does he. Wibey has walked Georgie to her school bus stop countless times. He knows the sound of her cry when she's hurt and he runs to her. He rests on the side of the tub when she bathes. He sleeps on her pillow, curved around her head every night. They take walks outside and explore the details of nature together often. They watch movies together. When she is gone for a long period of time, he cries out loud and refuses to eat until he has to. He lets her dress him, drag him, carry him, kiss him, brush him, etc. I've never seen a kitty and human bond this strongly.
2020 has been a rough year for almost EVERYONE. For Georgie, this year brought exposure. It brought bravery. It brought change. It brought trust. It brought many moments of depending on Wibey to assist in calming her nerves, boosting her confidence, and bringing her peace. It brought a fear that she would need to say goodbye to her fur baby. We are hopeful that we can get Wibey healthy and add some GOOD NEWS to 2020.
Any money raised will go toward Wibey's insulin, syringes, and a pet-specific glucose monitor. We're not expecting this to cover every future payment, but during a year like this for our family, every donation is a blessing!
