Diabetes Alert Dog for Sadie

Donation protected
My name is Sadie Collum. I am 25 years old and living in Columbus, Indiana.  I have had type one diabetes since I was 11 years old. I currently work at Smith Elementary as a Special Education Teaching Assistant. I have a passion for public education and helping students learn and grow.
However, I am currently in need of assistance in growing myself. I would like to be able to be more independent and as my living arrangements are changing I will not have the support I have always been used to in managing my diabetes.
As you may or may not know, as a type one diabetic, not having support in my diabetes can pose significant risks to my life. When my blood sugar is low in the middle of the night it can be very difficult to wake up and get the treatment I need. It can be the difference between waking up and… not.
Not only can a diabetes alert dog prevent the worst from happening, early alerts from a support dog can prevent sickness from high blood sugar that often prevents me from being able to go to work or do the normal everyday things I will need to do in order to live life alone.
Living with diabetes is challenging no matter what age you are and it has been very difficult to imagine doing it alone after almost 15 years of support. I am hoping to raise the funds to get the puppy, train her, and be able to take care of her without burden for the first year of her life. This can be a very expensive process but after much research I have found the most cost effective route I can take. It just so happens that this route includes an amazing breeder of poodles. The breeder I plan on working with has done this for over 20 years and has a specialty for diabetes alert dogs because of her families own journey with type one.
A diabetes alert dog can provide so many things for me, support in everyday life, peace of mind for me, and my loved ones, and unwavering companionship while I navigate a whole new season of life. I am looking to raise $6,500. This would cover the cost of the puppy, the training required, vet visits, and food for a year. It is important to me that I can provide a high quality of life for any pet I own, especially one that will provide endless amounts of support and love to me.

I have provided pictures of myself, and the parents of the next available litter of puppies.
