DICK BUNNY POST PRODUCTION FUNDS

The project, Dick Bunny, began in 2020, just as Covid launched us into an isolation similar to what new mothers experience. As of 2023, just like in the show, we’ve all had to create our own little world in the walls around us, re-inventing our identities to mirror the changes. Dick Bunny, a show about a British children's book character that comes to life in a sleep-deprived mom's bathroom, shows this reality through puppets and magical realism.

This November, we took the money we raised and filmed our show for ten days of creatively fulfilling work. I can’t begin to explain the feeling of seeing my scripts come to life on such a professional scale. EP/actress Kim Griffen created delivered a wonderfully nuanced performance as Max, the mom, fraying at the edges. Because of Katie Locke O’ Brien’s (NBC’s Ghosts, Keenan, The Santa Clauses) involvement/vision, the show went from a low-budget indie to a comedy that could easily be streamed on Hulu or Peacock. This proof of concept, highlights what the show would be capable of as a half-hour comedy, while being a stand-alone short series. (six, eight-minute episodes)

Part of what makes the series so special is the puppet world. Through Katie, we met the wonderful Dorien Davies, of Muppet fandom, who helped us find a puppet builder to build the inner world that takes place in Max’s head. With Dorien’s oversight, we created a Gwyneth Paltrow Puppet (for satire), and a puppet Kate Micucci, the actress who plays Max’s anxious best friend. We also added/built: a sheep that screams, two talking soup cans, monster hands that type the mental load on a tiny typewriter, and two popsicle sticks that constantly buzz with excited gibberish.

We are proud of what we have created and are looking for your help in the form of post-production funds. With the excellent series that we have, we can’t scrimp on post production, and part of the cost involves visual effects work. We need the zoom into our puppet world to look great and match the cinematic world that we have already finished. We are looking for funds for our editor, VFX, colorist, and sound mix. Your donation would be an enormous help in getting us to the finish line!

Thank you for considering this project that is from our hearts, minds,
and baby-saliva crusted bodies.

Warmly,

Susie Mendoza
