I’ve started this campaign for my Grandson in hopes of raising funds to contribute towards the purchase of a Water Ionizer for Brandon. This equipment can cost upwards of $5000.
About 4 years ago, Brandon was diagnosed with a rare genetic kidney disorder called Cystinuria.
This disorder causes his kidneys to produce kidney stones at an extremely fast rate. In the last 4 years Brandon has had 12 surgeries, with another coming up soon. He currently has stones measuring 12mm-15mm along with numerous other smaller stones and gravel in his kidneys.
To look at Brandon you would never know how sick this illness makes him. Severe pain, nausea, vomiting, kidney stones passed daily are just a few of his symptoms. Brandon’s medication is now at the highest dose possible and still is not reducing the formation rate of stones.
Brandon has a Nephrologists, Urologist, and Family Physician who work as a team managing his disease; His Nephrologists stated that “Brandon is the most severe and difficult case I’ve ever treated.”
Brandon’s life has ultimately been put on hold because of this illness. He lives at home with his Mom Dana and his Step-dad Dean. He has been unable to work because of the severity of his disease. He receives $490/month from the Alberta Government which barely covers his basic needs. Brandon has twice before been unsuccessful in applying for AISH. He has submitted his third and is awaiting a decision. Frustrating beyond words for this young man.
The stones this disease forms are not controlled by diet. They are controlled by medication and water. Water is considered a “medication” and part of his therapy. The PH level in his urine is very important. He must consume 4-6 litres of water daily. A Water Ionizer will help Brandon control the PH level of the water. Our hope is that with improved PH control of water therapy, along with his medication, will be more effective to slow the formation of stones.
My Grandson is a kind, loving young man who deserves a fighting chance at a normal life.
