- ABOUT US -
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Center (DHHSC) is a non-profit organization that serves individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind, Late-Deafened, their families, friends, and community service providers regardless of age, gender, and income. DHHSC was founded in 1983, originally named as Tulare County Advocacy and Communication Center (TCACC). It was established in Visalia, California due to a need for local deaf and hard of hearing services. The first executive director was Harry Schaffner. Over the years, there were few name changes to our organization with today's name currently. DHHSC currently has four outreach offices located in Central California: Fresno Headquarters (serving Fresno County), Central Coast Outreach (serving Monterey and San Benito Counties), Merced Outreach (serving Merced, Madera, and Mariposa Counties), and South Valley Outreach (serving Tulare and Kings Counties). According to the DHHSC website, these regions include an estimated deaf and hard of hearing population of over 171,000.
