First, let me say I am humbled by being here and having to ask for help. I was a police officer for 25 years and spent my entire career trying to help others, I never expected to find myself in a position to be asking for it. I am currently retired. My wife is a business owner in the insurance field. We have been getting by, leading a comfortable life with bills paid and food on the table. We have three kids in college and two out on their own. Our daughter-in-law works with my wife at her business, and we have a three-year-old granddaughter from her family. We are a blended family of 7 years. We both lost our previous spouses, my wife to MS and brain cancer and her husband to a heart attack. I made the decision to retire at the end of 2020 after a particularly bad call that could have potentially led to my death had the other party chosen to react differently than he did. A second incident, where my partner and I were almost run down by a person fleeing from a domestic call, sealed the deal. I could not imagine putting my three boys and stepdaughter through the death of another parent. Since then, I have been a stay-at-home dad and working delivery apps to help supplement my retirement. I recently had to stop doing that when my car, worn out from all the delivery driving, quit working. My wife had gone into business with a friend from the insurance field. They worked together up until this past summer. They had about twenty clients and were making decent money. We were not wealthy, but again, the bills got paid, and we were able to help provide for our daughter who was going to college in another town. My wife was also able to provide our daughter-in-law with a job to help her family out. Things were good, but the loss of a few clients and some other issues caused her to suspect things were about to go wrong. Her partner had incurred some legal issues over a house he had rented, and the court attempted to garnish wages from their business. He showed her paperwork from the other party's lawyer stating he was going to make payments, and she thought it was over with. He never made payments, and a final judgment of almost $8,000 was put in against their business. After this, she learned his insurance license had been cancelled for almost two years, and he was still working. She ended up getting him to sign a letter of resignation and leave the company. We later learned that just prior to this, he and another agent working with them had started another LLC behind her back. We believe their intention was to take business from her. Sure enough, in the last two weeks, they have managed to convince 5 clients to flip over to their company. She tried to talk to her former clients and inform them about the license issue, and they both responded with threats of legal action. Unfortunately, we can't afford to fight a legal battle. Because of all the damage her partner has caused, including chargebacks on lost accounts, which is coming out of her monthly commissions, we have gotten behind on our bills. My wife has taken a side job doing enrollments with another company, which will require her to travel all over the Northeast every week up until the week before Christmas. She is currently in Virginia as I type this. We are two months behind on several utilities, car payments, car insurance, our daughter’s living expenses and I ended up going 30 days late on our mortgage this month, which I am greatly ashamed to say. She decided after finding out about two more clients leaving today, that she was going to commit to an entire year of this travel enrolling. I am hoping to raise enough money to get caught up and maybe a little ahead on bills to be able to travel with her and do all the driving. We live in Alabama, and most of the places she will be going are several hundred miles or more away. Please pray about this, and if you feel led to help out my family, we would greatly appreciate it.
