Corey's Recovery Fund

On May 12 Corey brought me coffee like he usually does but wasn't making too much sense as we did our normal morning routine before work. By the time he arrived at work that day, he was having difficulty forming thoughts and complete sentences. As the day progressed it became obvious that this wasn't something caused by fatigue but something much more serious. That night he was rushed to Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital after a CT scan showed dangerous amounts of swelling and a deadly pocket of bacteria in his brain. After emergency brain surgery at DHMC at 12:30 am on May 13, his life was saved. After another major surgery near his tailbone three days later, the source of the bacteria was eradicated. Corey lost the executive functioning in his right arm and his ability to speak was limited to one word sentences and speech aphasia. We spent a week at DHMC receiving excellent care from a united front of several surgical teams. We are now home, still in inpatient care, and look forward to Corey making a full recovery with his continued hard work in OT and SLP sessions. He was hooked to a med vac for his back wound and has a PICC line where he administers IV antibiotics twice a day.
Because Corey has lost so much time at work and we have mounting living and medical expenses, we are creating a fund to help alleviate these financial stresses. Our friends and family have rallied around us in so many generous ways throughout this process and we are blessed to live in a community that has held us up during this challenging time in our lives.
