Help for Sarah

My daughter Sarah, 46, is an exceptional woman. She was a gifted elementary teacher for 15 years and delighted in her students. She is generous and caring of others, and a person of strong faith. She is fighting for her life against a rare autoimmune disease, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Mast cells normally produce histamine compounds to combat allergic reactions when they're needed, but because of MCAS, Sarah's mast cells are continually activated, keeping her in a constant state of allergic reaction. Chronic fatigue, lung issues, and pain are other aspects of her disease, as well as frequent blood clots, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple allergies to foods. Sarah's MCAS was mostly under control until 3 years ago when a botched surgery and two bouts of severe sepsis that followed, threw her mast cells into free-fall. Since that time, her quality of life has diminished, her medical expenses for prescriptions and supplies have increased dramatically, and there is no end in sight. Her disability income and the financial support she receives from her parents are not sufficient to sustain her. She has been a patient at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, since mid-July, seeking answers for her complicated health issues.
