In October 2017 the community of El Niguel Heights learned that a California State Liscensed Sober Living/Detox facility would be opening in a residence on Olympic Place. Neighbors on Olympic  spoke with the owners of the property several times to explain the implications the facility would have on the family centered community of ENH. The facility owners dismissed all pleads from the community, saying to an emotional neghbor "this place is opening, get used to it". ENH residents attened City Council meetings and were told by the council "there is nothing we can do, these facilities are protected under the law." That's when the community of ENH got organized with the objective; The faclility on Olympic will not open. 120 plus neighbors met at Seabreeze managment and BallPark Pizza. These meetings lead to the organization of ENH. Soon after a distribution list for communications and organization, protest committees, and other teams includeing social media, out reach, and developing a strategy were formed.  One team of 10 families from Olympic met with the facility owners convincing them that ENH is now organized, have coordinated plans to convince the facility owners that they were making a bad business desicion. While these discussions continued, work contiuned on the facility with 11/1/17 set as opening day.  In the end, a financial settlement was reached between the 10 homeowners of ENH and the facility owners, and the facility did not open.  The 10 ENH families entered into this financial agreement on their own, with the best intentions of their street, and the entire community in mind.  These 10 families entered into the agreement with no expectation of remuneration from the community of ENH.

As a member of our community, and one who has been involved in the matter from almost the beginning, I have organized this "Gofundme" campagin. I feel that while the homes on Olympic Place would have been impacted the most had the facility opened, our entire community would have felt the change in our daily quality of life, and our community would be adversly effected in ways no one could predict. For these reasons, I ask you to please consider contributing towards lessening the financial burden the 10 families took upon themselves. Whatever your heart tells you to do, we all owe the 10 families thanks for making ENH safe for everyone.
