Nursing Internship in Sri Lanka

Helllloooooo everyone reading this... my name is Devyn Baron and I am a nursing student at Louisiana State University Health Science Center. I was extremely reluctant to create this page but then I came to the realization that this website is in fact named Go Fund ME <<< soooo, that's what I'm here to try for. To convince YOU to help fund ME for a really exciting nursing internship in Sri Lanka (an island off the southern coast of India).
I have this wonderful opportunity- and honestly, the last of its kind (I'll get to that in a minute), to travel to Sri Lanka through a medical program called Work the World. I will be placed in Kandy- the island's second largest city nestled in the foothills of the highlands- for a 3 week internship in July. I chose nursing for an abundance of reasons but ultimately, I aspire to become a midwife. Until then, I plan to work in labor & delivery- helping deliver the precious miracles that happen all day, every day (there are 4.3 births every second, if you were curious). Being a labor & delivery nurse means being there for mommy (& even daddy), encouraging and supporting throughout the birthing process while providing the most comfortable atmosphere. But most importantly, it means being her advocate and making certain all of her wishes are granted for the most beautiful and spiritual experience she will ever go through. Now to why this is my last opportunity: I'll be graduating in December!!! YEEEEE! & since this is an internship, I won't exactly be able to participate in such a program upon graduation. This program of study will not only equip me with a vast amount of experience and knowledge pertaining to my field of interest, but it will allow me to experience a culture with which I am quite unfamiliar. It will provide me with awareness, a sense of connectedness and sensitivity while blessing me on my own spiritual journey. It would also look hella good on a resume and hopefully assist in landing me the job of my dreams! :)
I have been in touch with the ambassador of this program for months on end so I feel like it's time to take the plunge and reach out to you lovely people. I will be placed on a labor & delivery unit AND be shadowing different midwives along the way. On top of that incredible experience in itself, I will be taking a 1-week Ayurvedic medicine course, where I will be immersed in the world's oldest medical practice. I will learn about the many different holistic approaches that Eastern medicine has been practicing for thousands of years (what a remarkable thing for an aspiring midwife!). If you know me, this is more than a dream come true- especially since Eastern Asia is the sole place I've aspired to go. So yea... this is without a doubt the most compelling thing I've ever put in my head and out into the universe.
My balance must be fully paid 2 months before I am scheduled to leave--- so... that means May. My fundraising goal is quite a high amount and May isn't very far away, but I genuinely believe that as long as I stay positive and truly radiate my passion for this coming true- anything can happen.
