Devon Plays Sevens for BC!

Hello Friends!

Much to much surprise (and excitement) I have been invited to play on the Sr. Women's BC 7's Rugby Team! We are competing in Vegas March 2-4 and in Vancouver March 8-9. Beyond BCRU providing us with jerseys, an amazing medical team, and excellent coaching, we are self funded for the Tournament Fee ($650), flights ($300) and registration with rugby Canada ($450) .  Not to mention time off of work.
Given the short time frame, I am unable to organize one of my usual pub-night extravaganza's so I thought I would try this!

You're all probably thinking...aren't you like half robot after all the knee surgeries you've had?

NO! In fact, I remained in the varsity program at Queen's to the completion of my third year of law, playing on the 7's team there and working with their amazing coaching staff to rehab!

You're probably wondering...aren't you like a lawyer now? Why you risk your brain? Your knees?
Kinda a lawyer. But no, just an articling student. Why my brain? Why my knee?

I think it's important for people not to give up their athletic goals on the off chance they may hurt themselves. We are supposed to work to live, not live to work.  These knee surgeries helped show how resilient I could be as an athlete. I want to show other young female athletes they can go to school, have great jobs, healthy relationships and play high level sports. My sports hero is a tenured professor at UBC. She made sure I knew I could do both, and I want to encourage other young athletes to do the same. 

It has always been a goal of mine to compete at this tournament at the Elite level and am excited to make it happen so soon after returning to the province.
