Devin's Prosthetic Project

Donation protected
Hey everyone! I'm a biomedical engineering student at the University of Iowa and this summer I'm desiging and assembling a prosthetic leg for an 11-year-old cancer survivor, Devin, from Muscatine, Iowa. Devin lost his leg to a rare bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma this past year. The Courage Ride is an Iowa City non-profit that raises money and awareness for Sarcoma Cancer research at the Univeristy of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) through an annual bike ride around rural Iowa. A close friend of mine, Nik Jiruska, also battled this disease a few years ago and passed on Memorial Day last year. The Courage Ride honored Nik the year before his passing, and this year Devin will be the honorary rider. Devin has a lot of trouble riding his bike with his current prosthetic, and my goal is to create a prosthetic specifically so that he may ride his bike again and be able to ride with us at the event he is being honored at. I'm doing this project in memory of Nik and hope that through my efforts we can remember him by improving the life of a boy who fought the same disease. My design of the prosthetic is complete and I am now raising funds for the materials that are necesssary to assemble it. Any help I can get would be extremely appreciated by the Courage Ride and the UIHC commmunity. You can learn more about the Courage Ride and Devin through the links right below this text.
