Restore Devin's Smile!

Donation protected
My name is Linda. I am raising money for my daughter, Devin.  Devin needs to have a procedure done that requires full reconstruction of her mouth.

Devin’s Story
Devin was born with soft enamel teeth.  You may not think that’s such a big deal but it impacts so much!  Before she was two years old, Devin had to have crowns put on all four of her baby molars. She was strapped to a papoose board and has been traumatized to go to a dentist ever since.

It didn’t matter how well she watched what she ate or drank or how much she brushed and flossed her teeth, every visit to the dentist was met with cavity after cavity. And lecture after lecture, reducing her self esteem to almost non-existent. She started to think, “Why should I care? No matter what I do, it’s never enough!”   Yes, she made some poor choices, what teenager hasn’t? But she came out of that rebellion and started fighting for her teeth again.  Devin has also gone through a pregnancy, where even more damage was done to her teeth; the calcium was pulled from her body to nourish the baby in her womb; regardless of all the vitamins that she took.

My daughter is now 22 years old and a stay at home mother of a beautiful, eighteen month old daughter.  But now her teeth are disintegrating faster than we can fix them. She so rarely smiles and she doesn’t feel good about herself at all.  She suffers greatly from anxiety, depression and extremely low self-esteem.  Devin barely goes out into public places; it’s hard for her to even go to the grocery store because she is so self-conscience.  We need to fix her mouth before it leads to any other health issues; such as heart disease, respiratory problems, diabetes, cancer and kidney disease, just to name a few.

So off we go to another dentist to try and get her teeth fixed.  This dentist was honest and told us that what Devin requires is beyond her abilities and that Devin needs reconstruction to fix her mouth.  She referred us to a prosthodontist, who gave us his opinion and then referred us to another prosthodontist for a second opinion. Both agreed, my daughter needs to have reconstruction of her mouth/teeth.  So off we went to research.

Treatment and Cost
We went to the first prosthodontist and was told that she does indeed need reconstruction. There are two options.

Option One would be to do the surgery to build up her existing teeth into her gum-line and crown them all. But this would not stop the bacteria from attacking her teeth long term.  And not guarantee that she wouldn’t need more root canals and crowns later, or for that matter implants and replacement teeth. (Approximate cost $75,000 with no guarantees that this will be a permanent fix.)

Option Two was to have her remaining teeth removed and eight implanted titanium screws put in to anchor a full set of dentures. This would provide the permanent solution. (Cost $50,000)

Devin has chosen Option two. We are looking to have this done in the next month.

Why We Need Your Help…
My daughter, Devin and her fiancé, Anthony are young parents who are working very hard trying to build a life together and provide a good life for their daughter. They want to get married and live a healthy life.  Devin wants to go back to school to get her degree and a good job so that she can contribute to their household. Right now, her teeth hinder her from doing that.

I myself, am a single mom. My insurance will not cover this dental work.  My annual cap is $1500.  The cost of this work is more than my annual salary.  I need help to do this.  I know what this would do for my daughter.  It would bring back her beautiful smile, help raise her self esteem; alleviate her anxiety so that she would go outside and interact with the rest of the world without worrying if everyone is staring at her mouth.  She might even start singing again!  It would give her a new start on a life.  One that I know she would appreciate and treasure.

I would like to take this time to thank you very much for reading Devin’s story and for considering a donation to help us out.  Any size gift is appreciated. I know how stretched we all are and how hard it is to make ends meet, so even if it is $5, it will mean so much!

I cannot express the depth of my gratitude.  God bless you.  -- Linda
