Device Donation Project - Redbourn

**This campaign is targeted at the residents of Redbourn, Harpenden, Flamstead, Wheathampstead and the wider St Albans District. However, any and all donations will be gratefully received**

We are taking in donated laptops, tablets and phones, refurbishing them and then distributing them to local children who need a device for online schooling or to those elderly and vulnerable people who are somewhat isolated, to allow them to communicate digitally with friends and family.
Most of the laptops coming in are still using old-style hard drives that slow the computer right down (which is probably why it was donated in the first place) and so it needs replacing with a much faster SSD. There may also be space for a bit more memory (RAM) and it is much easier to use with a mouse.
Tablets and phones can be reset and cleaned but really need to go out in a protective case of some description.
Consequently, we are looking for donations to help get these machines back up and working with a performance that makes them useful again. And of course, we are reducing the amount of kit going to landfill in the process!
So if you can make a donation, no matter how small, you could really help us help our local community through this difficult time and make lockdown, shielding and remote learning just that little bit easier than it is right now.
For reference and to see what your donation might deliver:
- £20 gets us a 120GB SSD to massively improve an old laptop
- £20 supplies a basic laptop case to protect the refurbished machine
- £10 adds 2GB to a laptop to be able to use newer software
- £10 adds a basic mouse for increased productivity over the in-built trackpad
- £10 adds a case and cover to an iPad or other tablet
- £5 adds a protective case to a phone
