Devanadi UNITY Scholarship Fund

One of the translations of the word "YOGA" is "UNITY." We are in one of the most uncertain and tumultuous times of world history - a deadly pandemic and the necessary transparency of injustice, systemic racism and brutality. We (Devanadi) in the yoga community will continue to commit ourselves to the teachings and practice of nonviolence- ahimsa, peace, unity and most importantly the constant improvement of humanity.

While listening to the Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) community, it is clear now that the yoga community as a whole needs to work to be more inclusive, representative of, and accessible to BIPOC and other Underrepresented communities.

There is no clear answer how to take on this challenge but it is important to acknowledge it, and here at Devanadi we are taking action to offer scholarships for our training programs and for under-represented communities. This is not nearly enough, but it is where we can start.

Since the development of our Unity Scholarship Fund in mid 2020, we’ve been able to give full or partial scholarships to 14 students for different events and trainings. Keep in mind this fund is not just about financial support for students but also is designed to change the face of yoga today by broadening access to voices and experiences for all to learn and grow from. Although this fund has primarily given scholarships to BIPOC students to date, our plan is to keep it going and broaden our Scholarship options for any student regardless of background, gender, race or financial situation.
