After receiving several generous anonymous donations, we have decided to launch a GoFundMe page for others who might be interested in contributing. We truly appreciate the outpouring of support from the community!

Detour Cafe and Detour YHM are cafes based out of downtown Dundas, Ontario and the Hamilton International Airport. We take great pride in serving these communities and have formed incredible relationships over the years between our customers, staff and partners. We believe that nothing brings people together quite like coffee, and we feel privileged to play this role.
Due to Covid-19, and provincially mandated closures, we have been forced to close our shops. While we seek to do everything we can for our staff, our priority is to be a continued source of long-term employment when we are able to re-open our doors. As small businesses, we simply cannot afford to continue to pay our staff while our stores are closed and had to make the very tough decision to temporarily lay-off 90% of our employees.
After closing our doors, we received an outpouring of support from our local communities asking how they can help. Many of our customers and partners have developed close relationships with our staff and they wanted to see if there was anything they can do to support them at this time. Given everyone is going through tough times, we were hesitant to ask anything of our community. But, after a few anonymous donors insisted on making generous contributions, we have decided to launch a "Virtual Tip Jar" to give other members of our community the opportunity to support as well. Any donations received will be distributed evenly to our team of hourly staff (approx. 40 people). We as a company are contributing to this campaign and are also working on initiatives like e-commerce and pick-up markets to provide some employment in the short-term.
$5 Donation — Every bit counts!
$10 Donation — 25 cent tip” per staff member
$20 Donation — 50 cent “tip” per staff member
$40 Donation — Loonie “tip” per staff member
$80 Donation — Twonie tip per staff member
$200 Donation — Tip a fiver per staff member
Detour and our staff greatly appreciate any support you can offer, and we wish everyone well during these challenging times.
*UPDATE: While it’s looking like the government has stepped in to help support, these programs will not offset the impact of lost wages and especially tips to staff. All funds raised in this campaign will go directly towards lessening those losses.
