Destiny Medical Centre in Uganda

Donation protected
Destiny Medical Centre is a project based in Uganda that involves the building and fully equipping of a Health Centre in the grounds of Kampala Children's Centre (KCC). This home for children has truly transformed many young lives already as it has grown exponentially over the last 15 years. Their ethos is "to give the best to the least" and they truly manage to achieve this. http://www.kampalahope.org

Initially a kindergarten was built on the grounds of KCC, then a primary school and finally a secondary school. More than 1 100 children are receiving top quality education and care at these schools. In 2013, when 3 children from KCC and the community died needlessly as a result of the poor and inadequate state healthcare, the dream of building a medical centre on the grounds was rapidly given priority.

Fundraising began in 2014, ground was broken in 2015 and building started in 2016. Today the shell of the clinic is complete however further building work is required to complete it, to add external showers and toilets, to fit out the interior, to install solar panels and to equip the centre.

Destiny Medical Centre will offer the following services;
1. general outpatient care
2. dispensing of medication
3. dental clinic
4. optometry clinic
5. antenatal clinic
6. family planning clinic
7. postnatal care
8. paediatric immunisations
9. laboratory facilities
10. radiology facilities
11. HIV clinic
12. counselling room
13. large education area with AV facilites
14. 4-6 bed ward

The clinic will serve:
1) the children and staff of KCC (about 260 people)
2) the children at all the schools on the grounds of KCC (1 100 children)
3) the surrounding community (about 1 200 people)
4) people within the Wakiso community, the district in which the clinic will be situated. (The population of Wakiso doubled between 2002 and 2014 and now stands at 2,4 million)

The clinic will provide:
1)Full curative and preventative healthcare
2)Services to the community to improve medical, dental and optometric healthcare and related health education.
3) Free HIV testing and treatment and free contraceptive services
4) Subsidised care to those unable to afford it
4) Fee-attracting services to generate income for the ongoing running of the clinic.

The aim of the Destiny Medical Centre is to provide a community centre to bring wellness, healing and hope to all through the provision of excellent medical care.

At present, 4 rooms of the clinic are open and functioning, one as a ward for ill children at KCC.

How will the clinic take care of people and the environment?
•The carbon footprint of the clinic will be as minimal as possible.
•The clinic will be fully solar powered
•Instruments will be sterilised in such a way as to reduce packaging waste
•Recycling will occur throughout the clinic
•Run-off and rain water will be collected and used for the toilets.
•The clinic will be staffed exclusively by Ugandans.
•A great deal of time and effort will be put into training and employing local Ugandans for all posts in line with our policy on local empowerment and upliftment.

How will your contribution make a difference? It will:
•Enable a healthcare centre serving KCC and the surrounding area to be completed.
•Have a positive impact on mortality rates
•Reduce the number of infant and maternal deaths
•Improve health education
•Reduce pregnancy rates and increase the number of girls able to complete their education.
•Improve the general dental health of the community
•Facilitate the provision of drugs to HIV positive patients thus contributing to reducing the transmission of AIDS

Any donations you can make will be gratefully received.  Thank you, John Massie.
