Hola! My name is Tatiana and I have teamed up with my friend Ayla to help our dear friend, Roberto Perez, make one of his dreams come true by traveling to the United States. I am currently a junior at Profile High School and Ayla will be graduating this June. Ayla and I have had the privilege and honor to travel to the Dominican Republic on two separate trips and help build a preschool in the batey community of Naranjo. There we learned a lot by being immersed in the very different culture of the less fortunate nation of kind, generous, and loving people. For a community of people lacking some of the privileges and material goods that we deem necessary, they have offered us a wealth of insight and knowledge. One of those people being the then 13 year old Roberto Perez, who had proudly displayed his near fluent English.
Roberto lives in Santo Domingo and is now 15 years old. He likes to spend his time going to school, singing, dancing, playing sports, reading, writing, and volunteering for The Batey Foundation. He has also began to teach himself French. When he was 6 years old he had taken an interest in English and by the age of 13 he was close to fluent in the language.
Roberto has the opportunity to travel to Tilton, New Hampshire and attend a 3 week summer education camp program from July 8 to July 28 that will help challenge and enhance his learning opportunities. Here he will not only have the amazing chance to visit the United States but to also push forward his educational growth. This program is designed to force students out of their comfort zone and find not only their strengths but also their areas of growth.
The only thing standing between Roberto and his dream is the cost of a round trip airline ticket and money for a visa. The money raised will pay for his ticket and help contribute to the cost of a visa. Any help that you can give will mean more than you know! If you cannot donate please feel free to share this page.
