Our F.I.R.S.T. Lego League (FLL) robotics team, the Designing Dream Makers is comprised of 8 young ladies aged 10-15. Our team has been competing for 3 seasons and has earned several awards. On Saturday, February 17, 2018, we were awarded the First Place Champions Award at the Nebraska State FLL Tournament which qualifies us to participate in the FLL World Championship in Detroit, MI on April 25-28, 2018.
The FLL program is amazing and encourages young minds to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Each season, the FLL teams are invited to investigage some aspect of that year's theme by speaking to experts, idetifying problems and formulating innovative solutions.
This year's theme revolved around "Hydro-Dynamics". The Designing Dream Makers chose to investigate the purity of water and how it can be filtered safely and inexpensively. We created the Aqua Pure straw that filters water from bacteria, parasites, and protozoa anytime, any place. It’s inexpensive, biodegradable and will not produce mold or lose its effectiveness. We went on to share it with professionals two manufacturing companies and even the Red Cross who all thought it was an innovative solution to a worldwide problem
In order to get to the World Championship, we need assistance for the $1000 entry fee, housing, food and transportation. Any money that is left over, will help to fund next year's FLL team's start up costs such as registration and new materials for the next challenge!
