Design Work in Ghana with EMI

Donation protected
One more time!  This February I will be going once more on a volunteer trip with Engineering Ministries International (EMI).  For those not familiar, EMI is a group of Architects, Engineers and other Design Professionals who donate their design and documentation skills to assist ministries in developing nations to achieve their goals of building facilities that will help them to aid their local communities.  This year I will be going to a site about an hour outside of Accra, the capital city of Ghana.

We will be designing for the Navigators of Ghana.  Navigators is an international interdenominational ministry operating in 100 different countries whose motto is “to know Christ and to make him known” through mentoring relationships.  They are in need of a training and conference center.  With challenges of cost and Visa applications it is difficult for African members to travel to the U.S. for conference and training sessions.  In order to be financially sustainable the facility will also be available for use by other ministries and clients for conferences, weddings and events. Additionally we will be Master Planning for a Lodge and other support facilities on the property.

On three prior trips I’ve taken my daughters Danielle and Beth, where they had the opportunity to experience another culture and use their gifts to assist the local ministry in a variety of ways.  On this trip I will be taking Abby!  In Ghana I will be working with the Navigators to develop a master plan that makes the best use of the site both for the retreat center as well as for agricultural development.  Abby will be working with the surveying team getting the lay of the land and helping them create a CAD plan that indicates the boundaries, major land features, and topography.  She will also be assisting the team as a ‘runner’ and putting the final presentation together (while keeping up with her schoolwork….!)

A word from Abby: I’m looking forward to seeing an entirely different part of the world and finally seeing all the amazing and new things my family has seen before.  I’m a little anxious about being away from all that is familiar but I’m ready to help out anyway I can and support the local people!

We are excited about this opportunity serve the Navigators in Ghana, but Abby and I can’t do it alone.  We need your support in one or both of these two ways:  If after prayerful consideration you feel led to assist financially, you can donate in one of three ways: make out a check to ‘Engineering Ministries International’ and send it to my home address; donate directly online to www.emiusa.org, by clicking on the ‘Donate’ link.  It’s a quick and safe method for making a contribution – just make sure you indicate that it is for Daniel King, EMI Project US-0707. Finally, for the second time I’m using the crowd sourcing website ‘Gofundme.com’ to reach a larger pool of supporters.  Our support goal is $3600.  The other way you can support us is with prayers for safe travel, health, and team synergy leading to a successful completion of the project goals.

We will be away from February 5th through February 15th. Thank you for your prayers and support.  Abby and I look forward to sharing our experiences with all of you upon our return!
