Denny Wanous medical expenses

Donation protected
Our parents are very old fashioned and don't like to ask for help.  When our Dad Denny was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 7 years ago he fought it and beat cancer. He didn't complain or ask for anything, he just did what was necessary to survive and be there for his family.  Our Dad is the strongest person we know and on his behalf we are asking for your help.

On July 19th our Dad suffered a life threatening brain injury. We may never know what happened that day but what we do know will change our lives forever. We believe he may have fell while working at his shop and that fall caused him to hit his head resulting in a two inch laceration and fracture on the left side of his head. He hit his head so hard that it caused a brain hemorrhage on his right side.  Luckily, our Mom called the shop and realized something was wrong and she got him up to the emergency room. Within hours he was in emergency lifesaving brain surgery.  After an 8 hour surgery the doctor informed us that the surgery went as well as it could have. Unfortunately, they had to remove the front right lobe of his brain and a little bit above his eye. They had to do this for two reasons, that part of the brain was now just mush and they had to create room for the additional swelling that was happening. Dad spent the first two weeks at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato in ICU, those two weeks we were focused on saving his life.  He survived and fought like he always does. He was then transferred to Regency Hospital in Golden Valley.  There the focus was to get him off the ventilator, tubes and IV's and to start rehabilitation therapy. On September 12th he was transferred to Courage Kenny in Minneapolis, where he currently is. It is an excellent rehab facility and he spends about 4 hours a day doing PT, OT and speech therapy.  He will have to learn how to do everything all over again.  We are still unsure of how his brain will respond; we will have a better idea around 3 months after the injury.

Our Dad is a single business owner. Due to owning his own personal business he doesn’t have PTO, medical leave, profit sharing or 401K to fall back on. Our Mom has taken 12 weeks off to be by his side every step of the way. They currently have no income coming in and realistically he probably will never work again. He will be at Courage Kenny for the next 3-4 weeks and then may need 24 hour around the clock care after being released.  We are sure he won't like us doing this but we could use your help and support during this difficult time. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you to everyone for your continued support!
