Dennis is in a coma in the ICU

A couple weeks before Easter, Dennis, my girlfriend's husband, had a headache.  Over the course of 2 weeks his headache grew in intensity and he finally went to the emergency room.  A blood clot was found, and he was admitted for 4 days.  With blood thinners in his system, that meant he couldn't work for a month.

Sue hasn't worked since the Pandemic shut everything down last year.  She worked in the hospitality industry for a market research company.  With all travel coming to a halt, that meant her source of income came to a sudden end.  Dennis had a great job, so it wasn't a worry at the time.

(Dennis is the man in sunglasses in the front row.  I am the red head standing next to his wife, Sue.  Some of our children are surrounding us.  Our families have been intertwined for well over a decade, our bonds are extremely strong.  Dennis and I share a birthday.  Sue and I are like sisters, she was my lady in waiting for my renaissance wedding 10 years ago.  Our kids are friends, we consider each other family.  This picture was taken 9 years ago when we all got together to celebrate a very special family reunion.)

After returning home from the hospital, Dennis was doing better for the next week.  Two weeks later, he went to the doctor for a blood level check.  They immediately sent him back to the ER.  He had endured a mild heart attack and spent another 4 days in the hospital.  He was released and went home to finish off his month of no working.

Dennis went back to work a week ago Saturday and did his normal work week of Saturday-Wednesday.  On Friday, Sue and Dennis were in their backyard working on their raised garden beds, topping them off in preparation for planting.  At about 2PM, Dennis vomited for no apparent reason.  This happened 7 more times throughout the course of the afternoon up until 8PM.

Between that time frame, he slid down the steps carrying laundry.  At first, they thought nothing of it.  At about 7PM Dennis was trying to get down stairs to the bathroom because he needed to vomit again.  Sue stated that he was so wobbly, it looked like he was drunk.  He suddenly started saying some really strange things.  At 7:50PM he called his daughter in law and asked her to go out to her SUV and look for his 2006 Shelby Mustang.

She and their son rushed right over to figure out what was going on.  That whole afternoon and evening, Sue kept telling Dennis that something was going on, and he needed to get checked.  They were at the point of almost fighting about it.

Sue's son called 911 after realizing that his Dad just wasn't acting right.  Dennis was rushed by ambulance to Providence in Spokane, Washington, and they immediately admitted him.  Shortly thereafter, he fell in to a coma.

Dennis has a major bleed in the front left quarter of his brain.  This area affects fine motor skills, memories, speech, and personality.  There have been several CT scans.  Saturday night was really bad, it wasn't looking good at all.  The Doctor told the family that if the bleeding on his brain didn't slow down, Dennis would not make it through the night.

As of Sunday morning, he is still with us, but he most definitely is not out of the woods yet.   Now that the family has had a chance to take a breath, they need to focus on their immediate needs.  Dennis is the breadwinner of the family, the future is terrifying at the moment.

Sue will need help to pay their rent and utilities, and to keep food on the table.  She is a homesteader, so she has some supplies.  If Dennis pulls through, he will have months of therapy and rehab.  The family is still in a complete state of shock.  Sue is numb.  If Dennis survives, there is going to be a very long, and uncertain, road to recovery.  His children, even as adults, are scared of losing their dad.  We are all praying that he keeps fighting.

Please keep Dennis, his medical staff, and his family in your prayers.  We are all praying that there will be minimal brain damage so that he can have as normal a life as possible.

My nickname is Lucy, Sue is Ethel, Dennis is Fred, and my husband is Ricky.  We have been calling each other by these names for years.  It has been our inside thing.  I really want to call Fred on his next birthday and celebrate him.  I pray we get that chance.

If you can spare a few dollars, the family would greatly appreciate it.  If you can't spare, please say a prayer, and share this far and wide.  Thank you so much, God Bless.
