Dennis Fitzwilliam Celebration of Life Expenses

It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis Fitzwilliam announce his tragic passing as the result of a head-on collision on Friday, February 10th, 2023. He was on his way home from work to enjoy the weekend. Because of the shock of his loss, the family is not prepared for the burden that goes along with planning for death expenses. We want to give Dennis the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes. I am currently asking for donations to help cover cremation and celebration of life expenses. Any extra funds will also help my mother with living expenses. Please consider donating, as any amount will truly help our family during this difficult time. Please read below to read a little bit about the life and impact Dennis had.

Dennis was involved with preserving the historical architecture of Saint Louis, which branched off into a 40 year career in landscaping, building, and craftsmanship. Notably, he co-designed and built a series of Mississippi Bluff inspired boulder-scapes along the waterways of Forest Park. Dennis cared deeply about art, the environment, and historical architecture, which led him to build his dream home in the Mississippi river valley where he raised his family. He developed a passion for ecological restoration, converting countless acres of land back to the way it existed long ago. He was instrumental in preserving Eagle Cliff-Miles Cemetery and dedicating it as a recognized nature preserve.

Dennis was well respected and seen as an educator, pioneer, and mentor of many disciplines. Even at age 68, he never stopped learning and was as sharp as ever. In his personal life, he was a devoted husband and father who spent significant time assisting the Boy Scouts on camping trips and volunteer efforts with his son Jack. He rarely missed a Valmeyer baseball game cheering for his son Sam and always helped to maintain the field. He and his wife, Anne, explored the world together early in their relationship. They spent their free time going to live shows and trying the best restaurants St. Louis had to offer. When he wasn’t spending time with family or friends, he was often trying to find his phone that he hilariously could never keep track of. Dennis also developed a great skill in photography and his images have been published in newspapers, magazines, and websites. Dennis was many things, but a proud husband and father being the most important. In all of his life endeavors, he went headfirst and passed on the lessons he learned to his children and those around him. He valued his time more than anyone, but also gave it away faster than change in his pocket, as his generosity knew no bounds. Dennis left a lasting impact that will be felt for generations to come.
